High-score contest on the most seldom seen of the competition carts!
Run at Blockbuster stores in North America between June 14 and July 9 in 1995, players could pick between Nintendo’s SNES (the Donkey Kong Competition Cart) or the Sega Genesis, which featured the World Video Game Championship II. producing “store champions” who then competed at GamePro’s headquarters in San Francisco.
This cartridge is exceptionally rare, not just because only a handful were produced, but because unlike its SNES counterpart which could be won by contestants, Sega’s cartridges were ordered destroyed after use. A few survived, though, made their way into the hand of collectors, and in 2010, 100 reproduction cartridges were made including a custom printed box and cart label. Let’s Play Gaming Expo is lucky enough to have access to one of these limited edition carts and will be using it for the tournament.
